Frequently asked questions about osteopathy

Is osteopathy covered by French health insurance?
Osteopathy is not reimbursed by the national health insurance (Assurance Maladie). Most supplementary health plans (mutuelles) cover part or all of the cost, typically €20 to €50 per session. A consultation receipt is issued after each visit to support your reimbursement claim.
How long is an osteopathy session?
The first consultation lasts approximately 1 hour to include a full intake interview covering your medical history and reason for the visit. Follow-up sessions last between 45 minutes and 1 hour. Steffie’s approach is gentle and tissue-based: techniques are always adapted to your specific case, without any forceful manipulation.
Can newborns and babies see an osteopath?
Yes, and it is one of Steffie’s areas of expertise. In addition to her osteopathy degree, she is a certified breastfeeding facilitator (ECBN) and has specific training in postpartum care. She sees newborns from their very first days of life using gentle, precise techniques adapted to infants. Common reasons for a consultation: feeding difficulties, colic, reflux, flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly), neonatal torticollis and sleep disturbances.
Is osteopathy recommended during pregnancy?
Yes, osteopathy is beneficial at every stage of pregnancy. It helps relieve lower back pain, sciatica, nausea, acid reflux and prepares the pelvis for childbirth. Postnatal follow-up is also recommended, for both mother and baby.
How many osteopathy sessions will I need?
This depends on each patient and the nature of the complaint. For an acute issue, 1 to 3 sessions are usually sufficient. For preventive care, one session every 3 to 6 months is recommended. Improvement is often noticeable after the first session or within the following days.
How do I book an appointment at the practice?
Appointments are booked online through Doctolib, available 24/7. For any questions before your first visit, you can also use the contact form above. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Where is the practice located, and which nearby cities can easily reach it?
The practice is at 12 rue des Vergers d’Eole, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, in Vendée. We welcome patients from across the region: Les Sables-d’Olonne is about 25 min away, Challans about 20 min, and La Roche-sur-Yon about 40 min. Axelle Dion, osteopath D.O. at the practice, also sees patients in Challans, which is convenient for patients in northern Vendée. From Fontenay-le-Comte, allow approximately 1 hour.
